Der Greif is a photography magazine that specialises in juxtaposing images, taking them out of their original context to make the viewer see them afresh. This issue was guest edited by the artists Broomberg & Chanarin, and it tackles the politics of censorship, showcasing images that are “too private, too quiet, too violent, too political, too subversive or too explicit to share on social media”.

Please note that this magazine contains extreme and explicit imagery. In keeping with Der Greif’s concept, we’re not showing any of the images from inside the magazine online.

Commended for the Subscribers’ Choice Award at the 2019 Stack Awards

  • A disgruntled former content moderator at Facebook takes over as editor
  • Surprisingly quiet images that attest to the “attention economy”

Issue 11 of Der Greif is also available in the Stack shop.

  • The ‘deepfake phenomenon’: voice matching and facial mapping threatening reality
  • The ethics of robots replacing workers in the fast fashion industry
  • AI doctors
  • Transcending mortal flesh and biological constraints with transhumanists
